Kristen Ugrin has been an educator for 24 years. Prior to coming to Tierra Linda, Kristen has been a teacher, Reading Specialist, program coordinator and principal in Millbrae and San Mateo. Her focus is on instructional leadership, team building through collaboration and meeting the social, emotional and academic needs of all children.
It is an honor to introduce myself as the new assistant principal of Tierra Linda middle school. It is with great pleasure to become a part of the Tierra Linda family and community. Public Service has always been something that I have found purpose with and it has informed my educational and professional choices.
I was born in Yangon, Myanmar. I came to the US in June, 1995 and graduated from UC Berkeley (GO BEARS!!!) in 2003 with a major in applied math and a minor in economics. I have worked in education for 16 years as a Math teacher and in a variety of teacher leader roles including: computer science teacher, district math coach, math department chair, badminton coach, founding teacher, athletic director, and summer school principal in the Sequoia Union High School District. As a lead learner passionate about equity, social emotional learning and teaching the whole child, I am extremely excited to be a part of Tierra Linda team.
Much of my professional identity is expressed through advocacy for all students. Teaching the whole student and building positive relationships improves opportunities to inspire a love of learning. I believe my main responsibility is to put our students and teachers in the best possible to succeed and thrive. This summer, I plan to spend the majority of my time working with Principal Ugrin to ensure a smooth transition. I plan to promote growth mindset, grit, perseverance, and let students take agency over the learning. I look forward to meeting all of you and have a fun year at Tierra Linda!
