Principal’s News

At the April 6th board meeting’s Spotlight for Excellence, TL students were recognized and celebrated for their outstanding achievements. Mr. De was acknowledged and applauded for his efforts in creating opportunities for our students to excel in a range of areas, including speech and debate classes, as well as math clubs. You can find more information here.

To All Our Tierra Linda Music Supporters,

We are extremely excited to be BACK with more Live Jazz in the Quad! We had such a great time last year and so many of you have asked about another gig this Spring, so please mark your calendars...

*insert drum roll here*

TL will be hosting its annual "Jazz Night" on Monday, April 24th at 6:00pm in the Quad! This is a free event that is open to the public. We will be featuring YOUR Tierra Linda Middle School Jazz Band along with a return visit by A Touch of Brass, Silicon Valley's Premiere Big Band out of San Jose!

This year, we are working in collaboration with the TLM PTASCEF, and the San Carlos Chicken's Ball to bring you another unique concert-going experience. Stay tuned for an update about additional food options - you can expect light refreshments to be on sale and plenty of picnic tables to enjoy dinner during the performance.

Like always, it's more fun performing for a BIG audience, so bring the whole family and tell your neighbors, friends, and anyone else who could use some more live music in their lives!

Looking forward to seeing everyone on the 24th!
-Jason Kneebone & Tabitha Tetreault

On Wednesday, April 19th, there will be an assembly which will focus on creating a safe and supportive culture and climate for our students. As part of this ongoing initiative, San Carlos is partnering with Body Kindful, a program that promotes healthy habits and provides resources for individuals who may be dealing with eating disorders. It is common for disordered eating to start in middle school, often as a result of changing bodies, peer pressure, increased stress, and beauty standards promoted by social media. During this session, students will have an opportunity to learn about intuitive eating, how to listen to their bodies, and how to appreciate and respect bodies of all shapes and sizes. Students will also learn skills and tools that they can use  to make kind choices for their bodies and foster positive peer interactions.

During 8th grade English classes on Wednesday and Thursday, students will receive information regarding the upcoming end of year events intended to celebrate the promotion and transition from middle school to high school. We will acknowledge and recognize students who show positive behavior by following expectations, practicing kindness, staying engaged, and finishing strong. For students who require extra support, individual conferences will be scheduled ro review/ reteach behavior expectations and behavior contracts will be established to include goal setting and consequences.

It is time for 6th and 7th graders to learn about electives options for next year.  During elective classes, we will explain the process for selecting electives.  We will share more information with parents/caregivers.  Please note that students will need to fill out the elective form with their school email.

Time for Service

We have an upcoming opportunity for students, parents, caregivers to volunteer with Rise Against Hunger on Sat. April 29 from 12:30-2:30 at Tierra Linda. Please Sign Up Now: Joining Hands to Lend a Hand

They may look like simple bags of rice and soy, but Rise Against Hunger meals represent the hopes and dreams of people worldwide.

Our volunteers are the heart of our mission to end hunger and we could not send millions of meals around the globe each year without them.

Please access the link below to sign up below to register as a volunteer for the event day, and to donate to a very worthy cause: Rise Against Hunger event registration

During the month of May, both SC  middle schools will focus on service to others and engage in different ways to help and support each other either in the school community or local community.  Research shows that kindness and serving others helps build relationships, compassion, empathy and improves mental health and wellness.  For more information, read this article from PsychNews Daily or if you have more time, the book Wonder Drug by Anthony Mazarelli and Stephen Trzeciak.
