Library News

September 2022: A Message from our librarian, Ms. Baxter:

Welcome back to school! The 2022/2023 school year promises to be very exciting.  This year the library will be hosting various events/activities each month.

September kicks off our "Around-the-World" Book Reading Challenge.  The theme, based on Jules Verne's best-selling novel, “Around the World in 80 Days”, challenges students to read books whose settings are from different countries and continents around the world.  With each book finished, students will be given a dot to place on a giant map in the library corresponding to where the book was set.  By the end of the year, we will be able to see from which continents (and countries) we’ve read the most and what new books we want to add to the global offering to continue to broaden and diversify our already inclusive selection of books.

In addition to the "Around-the-World" challenge, we will be celebrating Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month, September 15th - October 15th as well as Banned Books Week, which runs from September 18th - September 22nd.

I’m excited to begin class visits, and by all means...please send your children to me for book recommendations!

Ms. Baxter

COVID Reminders & Testing Options

If your child is experiencing symptoms, please keep them home and give them a rapid antigen test. Staying home when sick can lower the risk of spreading infectious diseases to other people and testing remains a key mitigation layer to detect and curb transmission of COVID-19.  If your child tests positive for COVID-19 or your household is in need of additional test kits, please contact your school site as soon as possible.

Testing Resources
- Worksite Labs - Arroyo Upper Elementary (Patio 3) - Sign-up for testing at Arroyo

Help with lunch service is urgently needed! The volunteer help we had during the first few days of school made all the difference in keeping the lines moving and getting our students their meals with enough time to eat. Now that The Lunchmaster is in full swing, our one lunch server needs help more than ever! If you can spare an hour once a week, a few times a week, or all five days, it would make a huge difference for our hungry kids and our hard working food server. If you can help, sign up here. Thank you!

Lunch service times:

Monday, Tuesday, and Friday 12:15-1:15 p.m.

Wednesday 10:35 - 11:35 a.m.

Thursday 12:30 - 1:30 p.m.

Additional Volunteer Opportunities: There are a number of positions we are hoping to fill on our TLM PTA board and in support of PTA events and activities. Please have a look and sign up here!
