First Week of School

Students will have a snack break and lunch break on Thursday and Friday and it’s a full day of instruction.

Schedules:
Parents/caregivers should receive their child’s schedule Friday, Aug. 19 in the evening.  Our enrollment has increased over the past two weeks in August.  During the first week of school, we are unable to make schedule changes unless a student is missing a class.  We may need to adjust classes during the first 10 days of school, because of our unexpected increase in enrollment.  To minimize disruption, we will do this as soon as possible. We will notify students of any changes and give them a copy of their schedule.
Students can visit campus on Monday, August 22 from 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. to walk our campus and find their classes.

Health and Safety
In accordance with San Mateo County Health Guidelines, masks are optional.  Students are encouraged to use hand sanitizer and wash their hands frequently.  If your child has Covid symptoms or is sick with a fever, they should stay home until fever free.  For more information Covid 19 Resources click here. Notify Cori Carpenter if your child will be absent from school, (650)508-7370 [email protected].

Back to school supplies:
Students should bring a backpack to school on the first day. Tierra Linda does not have lockers, so students carry their backpack with them all day and can hang it on a hook outside their classroom. Teachers will give students a list of items that they will need for school that includes a binder, pencils, pens, paper, and a refillable water bottle. If your child needs the listed supplies, let teachers know and the school will provide them.

Cell phones: Personal items such as cell phones, airpods, smart watches, tablets, cameras, etc. are not the responsibility of the school. We recommend leaving them at home. Students do not need to bring cellphones to school as we provide devices for learning.  If they are brought to school, they are required to be turned off, and out of sight from the start of school day, 8:45 a.m. until the end of the day 3:10 on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Phones and mart watches should be in airplane mode during the day. Phones may not be used for any reason in the bathrooms. If a personal electronic device is needed for a class project, permission must be obtained from the teacher in advance.

Dress Etiquette: At Tierra Linda Middle School, we expect our students to dress in a manner that  supports our mission of creating a safe & inclusive learning environment for all students.
Dress for school and be ready to learn:
Shirts or tops, with bottoms (pants, shorts, skirts, or skorts) or dresses must be worn at all times. Hats and hoods must be removed in class. Hoodies (when worn outdoors) must allow the face to be visible to school staff.
Students will review our digital handbook and behavior expectations the first few days of school.

PE and changing: Students do not change for PE class. They should wear comfortable clothing and shoes to participate in PE activities.

Bell Schedule: Here is the bell schedule with the first week of school (August 24-26) and the regular bell schedule which starts August 29. Note: Zero period for 7th and 8th graders who have two electives meets at 8:00 a.m. on Aug. 24 only and then at 7:45 a.m. starting Aug. 25 and throughout the remainder of the year.
