Resilient San Carlos Outdoor Learning Spaces Project
Tierra Linda, Mariposa, and Arundel have received a grant and are working in partnership with many organizations (Bay Tree Design, Each Green Corner, Resilient School Yards, San Mateo County Office of Education, City of San Carlos and San Mateo County Stormwater Program) to have a master plan for the school campus that focus on watershed and water cycle. We have a creek running through our campus and we hope to one day improve our outdoor spaces by creating learning labs.  If you would like to learn more about this project, please attend out PTA meeting on March 14 or attend our School Site Council Meeting on March 17 at 3:30 p.m.  Here is the Zoom Link for the SSC meeting.

What We Are Learning
Last week we had a quadriplegic motivational speaker, Alex P. Plasky who shared his story. Alex shared, "Life will always throw challenges our way, and it is up to us to build the appropriate skills to tackle them." We learned strategies for responding to challenges.

E+R= O (Event + Response= Outcome). We all have different events that happen to us, and depending on how we respond, we determine the outcome that we will have.

During the month of March, Ms. Gulati and I will be visiting classrooms to talk with students about what they are learning about and acknowledge ways they work together in order to demonstrate mastery of learning targets.  Students are learning about:
Emperor Chin and debating efficacy of his leadership
Confucius and Imperial China and using skits to teach about key concepts of the time period
Ultimate Frisbee
Different strengths and challenges with stations in PE for Abilities Awareness week - trying to tie shoes wearing gloves
Stamped by Jason Reynolds and the history of racism
Writing argument/persuasive essays
Manifest Destiny "How justifiable was the US expansion in the 1800s?" from different perspectives
Comparing shape, scale factor, multiply by same number for each side, increase/decrease, similarities, why or why not, comparing shapes
Explaining relationship with percent, fraction, decimal and how we use them in every day life
Natural disaster project, earthquakes and volcanoes and sharing the information through skits, newspapers, game creation, or models
Learning to pieces and instruments in Band and Orchestra and conducting or leading a group
