October 4, 2021 Weekly News

Principal's News

October 4-8 is Conference Week. School dismisses at 1:00 p.m. so teachers can conference with parents/guardians and students.  We will also hold 504 meetings and Student Support Team (SST meetings).

On Monday, Sept. 27 we had an assembly during PE classes to learn about Hispanic Heritage Month.  Students watched videos about the different between Latino, Latinx and Hispanic.  We also learned more about members of the San Carlos community and their contributions so we are able to recognize people in our neighborhood.  Additionally, we taught behavior expectations, PAWS, in different areas of our campus:
  • Practice Safety
  • Accept Responsibility
  • Work Ethically
  • Show Respect
During lunch, students should space out 6 feet apart when eating and any time they are not masked outside. Students should keep hands and feet to themselves and play or spend free time in ways that are safe and respectful-basketball, soccer, handball, four square, volleyball, board games, reading or talking with friends. Students should keep language positive and refrain from joking or teasing others including their friends.

We encourage students to go to an adult on campus. "If you see something, say something", so we are able to help keep all students safe and maintain a positive learning environment.  We use restorative circles to help students work through conflict and restore or repair a relationship when they have broken expectations.

We are disheartened by social media platforms that encourage students to engage in vandalism of property or aggressive behavior toward staff.  At Tierra Linda, we had only one initial incident of vandalism in a bathroom in early September.  TL staff continue to teach and acknowledge when students follow expectations for engaging with peers and staff.

Masks and Physical Distancing

Students are required to wear masks at school indoors. Please consider sending you child with an extra mask in their backpack. It's always good to have an extra on these warm days.  Masks are required indoors and optional outside. We encourage students to wear masks at all times except when outside taking a mask break. Students are encouraged to be six feet apart when eating or outside without a mask.

Attendance

Please call the office if your child is absent (650-508-7370) or email [email protected]. Leave the reason for the absence on the voicemail or in the email

Math Club and Competition

Math Club meets on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m.  Students can email Mr. De at [email protected] for more information.  Math teachers shared the details of Math Club with students. The AMC 8 will be held in the third week of January, and Mathcounts is generally the first Saturday of February. Students are guaranteed participation in AMC if they sign up by the deadline. For Mathcounts, not everyone who wants to compete will be able to. We will have tryouts due to the limited number of spaces available per school. Participation in Math Club is required for both contests.

*Students may sign up for just one contest, or both.

TLM PTA News

Thank you for supporting PTA!
This year, PTA is working hard to focus our efforts on programs and activities that will make a positive difference for the kids in our school and enhance their educational experience. OUR GOAL IS TO RAISE $65,000 to help us do this and our ask is $250 per family. We are currently 75% to our goal. We can make it with your help! Your financial support, at whatever level your family can give, helps ensure we have the funds required to continue to support Classrooms and Teachers, Community Building Events, Art and Special Programs, and Advocacy efforts across our district and throughout the state.

Meanwhile, to celebrate our school spirit and “Better Together!” campaign, we will have a TL-Mariposa T-shirt (approved for TL PE wear!). Sponsors will be recognized on the back of the shirt and receive complimentary shirts for their immediate family. Additional sponsor benefits outlined HERE.
Deadline for sponsorship to ensure name/logo is on the t-shirt is extended to October 8th.
