September 27th Weekly News

Principal's News

Conference Week is October 4-8 and students dismiss at 1:00 p.m. Teachers are scheduling conferences. If you would like to conference with one or some of your child's teachers, send them an email to request a conference.  Each teacher has 100-120 students, so they may need to conference at a time other than conference week.  TL teachers are dedicated to open communication and there is an open grade book through Illuminate. Parent/guardian Illuminate account information was sent out the week of Sept 13, so check your email for details. We will be holding individual conferences, Student Support Team (SST) meetings and 504 meetings this week as well.

Important Announcement Message on Friday

Last Friday I sent an announcement about an incident on campus that was found to be unsubstantiated.  There was a post on Next Door about the threat which had incorrect information. There was no planned threat of violence at Tierra Linda.  Students that were part of the sixth grade class were supported and we will meet with them on Monday morning.  Our message to students when it comes to being in a community together, "If you hear or see something, say something." This also applies to inappropriate jokes, teasing, making fun of others and bullying.

Masks

Students are required to wear masks at school indoors. Please consider sending you child with an extra mask in their backpack. It's always good to have an extra on these warm days.

Our school leadership team and SCSD School Board is continually analyzing the San Mateo County COVID-19 data, local trends, and school data to determine when it may be appropriate to layer in additional COVID-19 protections above CDPH and San Mateo County Office of Education guidelines. For example, we instituted an outdoor masking requirement after Labor Day weekend due to increased travel among our student population and staggered eating periods for 6th and 7th/8th graders.

Currently, there has been a decline in COVID-19 cases in the Bay Area and San Mateo County. Furthermore, San Mateo County is reporting an increase in our vaccination rate - to 94% for 16 years olds and older and 93.7% for 12 year olds and older. San Mateo County has one of the highest vaccination rates with one of the lowest COVID rates in the State.

As a result of this information, we have decided to discontinue our outdoor masking requirement starting Monday. However, as before, students and staff may still decide to wear a mask outdoors.

Drinking Fountains are closed- Water filing stations are open

Please remind your student to bring a refillable bottle or cup for water. Due to Covid-19  students can't  drink water  directly from a drinking fountain, so bottles area much safer option.

School ID/ Make up Picture Day

Some of the school ID's did not print properly. We are working to get every student an ID. Please bear with us through this process. Make up picture Day is October 22nd. Students will be called out of class through out the day. If you have questions, please contact Ms Carpenter at  [email protected]

PTA Needs your support!

This year, your support of the PTA will help us create the campus environment that all our kids have missed out on last year. We are working hard to focus our efforts on programs and activities that will make a positive difference for the kids in our school and enhance their educational experience. OUR GOAL IS TO RAISE $65,000 to help us do this and our ask is $250 per family. We are currently 50% to our goal. Your financial support, at whatever level your family can give, helps ensure we have the funds required to continue to support Classrooms and Teachers, Community Building Events, Art and Special Programs, and Advocacy efforts across our district and throughout the state.

Meanwhile, to celebrate our school spirit and “Better Together!” campaign, we will have a TL-Mariposa T-shirt (approved for TL PE wear!). Sponsors will be recognized on the back of the shirt and receive complimentary shirts for their immediate family. Additional sponsor benefits outlined HERE.
Thank you so much to all who have already donated!
