Principal's News

Dear TL Families:

As we enter the last two weeks of school, we look back on all our challenges and what we have learned over the last three months.  A special thank you to Hazel Stabinsky for serving as our PTA President over the last two years and being an incredible leader for our community.  Hazel will continue to serve in other capacities and we know she will stay close to assist with the transition to a new PTA Executive Board.

I also want to thank Steven Wong for her leadership and service to the TL community over the past year.  Mr. Wong is moving on to be an Assistant Principal at South San Franciso High School.  We wish him well in his next adventure.  It is an exciting time for Mr. Wong to go back to his high school and work along side teachers and staff that he already knows.  Congratulations Mr. Wong.  Due to the budget challenges in our district, we will not be replacing Mr. Wong and we will share an Assistant Principal with Central, Ms. Megan Vizier.  We want to welcome Ms. Vizier to our team next fall.

The next few weeks have many fun and exciting events as we celebrate our 8th graders with a pre-recorded virtual Promotion Ceremony on June 10 at 3:00 p.m.  We also will have 8th graders drive by at an assigned time window on June 8 and 9 so we can pass out some goodies and say good-bye.  We hope that yearbooks will be in by the end of school, however, due to Covid and the production factory being shut down, they may not arrive in time.  We will keep you posted.

Please return any books and materials or chrome books before the end of school.  Ms. Baxter is coordinating times for drop off of books.  We still have many books out and we would like them returned so they can be processed and quarantined over the summer.  Thank you.

Stay safe and healthy until we are together again,

Kristen Ugrin, Principal

San Carlos Education Foundation SCEFSCEF

Thank you to everyone who has helped to Make it Happen in May! We are getting close to meeting our $2.8M fundraising goal for the 2020-21 school year. In these unprecedented times with looming budget challenges, SCEF is committed to continuing its fundraising efforts to help our schools. The anticipated reductions in California State Funding will be deeply and swiftly felt without the financial support of our community. Every donation will make a difference in the lives of our students.

Let’s see how far we can go together.  Please donate today online at https://www.scefkids.org/donate/.

Upcoming School Board Meeting Honoring Retirees and Budget Information

The SCSD Board of Trustees will be honoring our retiring staff members at the next Board meeting Thursday, June 4, 7:00 pm. This long standing tradition is especially important this year, given that traditional celebrations are an impossibility at this point.

The Board had a presentation on the District's third interim budget at their May 28 meeting - view the presentation here. On June 4, the Board will also be discussing the draft budget for next school year which will include staffing and program reductions of approximately $2,000,000 ($2M) due to the COVID-19 crisis and revenue losses from this year and next. Even with those reductions, the draft budget will likely not meet the necessary State reserve requirements due to a need to address an approximate $3,000,000 ($3M) million shortfall due to additional State funding cuts of 10%. You can watch the meeting via YouTube here. You can share a public comment by sending an email to [email protected].

Pandemic Food Assistance Available

COVID-19 Pandemic EBT (P-EBT) benefits will be available soon. Children who are eligible for free or reduced-price meals can get up to $365 in food benefits in addition to community ‘to-go” meals. Learn more about these P-EBT food benefits here.
