Principal's News

Our TL staff continues to collaborate and adjust in order to support student learning and social/emotional development during this challenging time.   There are additional learning projects and extension as well as resources and support on our SCSD Distance Learning Portal. If you have questions or concerns, please reach out to your child's teacher, our school counselor or administration.

SCSD Leaders are discussing options for assessing student learning, grades and filling out report cards. As soon as we have come to a decision, I will communicate the plan.  We continue to have high expectations and hold students accountable while allowing students to adjust and access this different type of teaching and learning.

7th grade students start Teen Talk on Monday, April 27.  Health Connected nurses and teachers were able to adapt the curriculum and offer it online.  Students will participate in online sessions through a webinar and have time to confidentially ask questions.  Teachers will be present during the sessions.

All 8th grade students and parents received an additional announcement about Promotion and Celebration activities.  Please be sure to take the survey and order your 8th graders' t-shirt.

Stay safe and healthy until we are together again,

STAFF APPRECIATION WEEK - May 4-8, 2020

Staff Appreciation Week is around the corner during the week of May 4th and we want to show our TL teachers how much we love them during these difficult times.  Please look out for email communication from the PTA on how we are going to coordinate to make that week extra special for our teachers/staff.

REMAINDER OF PTA MEETINGS

We will be moving the remainder of the PTA meetings to evening time slots to accommodate schedules impacted by distance learning.  Agendas will be posted at least one week prior to each scheduled meeting.

Monday, May 11 - 7pm (via Zoom)

Monday, June 8 - 7pm (via Zoom)

In light of the rapidly changing information as a result of COVID-19, we have added a June meeting in the hopes of being able to share any updates about the plan moving forward for the Fall.  Stay tuned as details unfold.

San Carlos Education Foundation (SCEF)

SCEF knows that while fundraising earlier this school year has been strong, we still need to raise $700,000 to meet our $2.8MM goal. We are committed to working with the community to meet our 2019-20 goal and raise as much as we can to support public education in San Carlos.

We believe that raising funds to help protect jobs is the most important thing the parent community can do right now. The vast majority of SCEF's annual grant to SCSD funds people--teachers and other educators. The more money SCEF can raise this spring, the more impact we will have to help the district meet its budget obligations --including reducing possible layoffs.

If your employer has a workplace giving program (https://doublethedonation.com/scef), and you are able to give, please consider making a contribution now. Many large companies have recently increased the matching within their program. Or perhaps commit to a monthly amount that helps you achieve your desired annual gift, over time - https://www.scefkids.org/donate/

San Carlos Youth Center Zoom

The San Carlos Youth Center will be hosting after school drop-in via Zoom on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 3:30-4:10 pm. Much like drop-in, the Youth Center staff will be running various games and activities during this time.

Zoom login information has been sent to all 2019-2020 Youth Center members' parents via email. If you have any questions or activity suggestions, please contact Caitlyn Matoso at [email protected].

Emergency Childcare Essential Workforce Survey

Many parents in our community are essential workers, and we want to connect you with organizations that are providing emergency childcare if that is a need you have. The Childcare Coordinating Council (4Cs) is centralizing the planning and sharing out of these resources. Please complete this short, 8-question online survey to be connected to 4Cs’ child care resource and referral staff who will help you find emergency child care. You may receive this survey more than once. Please complete one per family.

For definitions of the essential workforce for each sector, please refer to the State Public Health Officer's designated list of “Essential Critical Infrastructure Workers.” https://covid19.ca.gov/img/EssentialCriticalInfrastructureWorkers.pdf

For questions about this survey or emergency child care for essential workers, please email [email protected].

San Carlos Hometown Days Rescheduled

After much thought and discussion, the San Carlos Hometown Days Committee has decided to reschedule Hometown Days 2020 from May 15-17 to August 28-30. We are sad that we have to postpone Hometown Days, but felt that this was a fitting decision due to the times and due to the fact that originally HTD was actually held in the fall.

We are committed to putting on a great celebration for our 40th Anniversary! We are looking forward to seeing you in the end of August!!
Cheers to 40 Years!!!
